This scheme comprised the upgrade of the Whitla Medical Building and the refurbishment of the Pharmacy and McClay Institute.
The Whitla Medical Building comprised the upgrade of existing accommodation on the entire second floor, and refurbishment and upgrade of areas on the ground and first floors of the building to provide modern flexible office accommodation to support the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Science.
With the exception of the second floor, all other floors within the building remained occupied during the works. A phased completion ensured unrestricted access to the existing and new teaching rooms on the upper floors.
The Pharmacy and McClay Institute refurbishment works were dispersed throughout both buildings which remained occupied during the works. The Pharmacy refurbishment work included the upgrade of existing third floor teaching laboratory accommodation to improve the quality of the teaching environment.
