Magowan Tyres is a family-run business with 50 years of experience in the motor servicing industry.
Albert Fry Associates are playing a key role in the design and construction of a new 100,000 sq. ft. portal-framed distribution warehouse. In addition, the site will also provide associated office facilities, staff accommodation and parking.
The civil engineering design for the site was complicated by local flood levels requiring a raised finished floor level. Foul and storm drainage was designed using Microstation modelling software and Autodesk Civils 3D. The sustainable design approach utilised attenuation ponds to restrict stormwater runoff for the entire site to greenfield rate.
Expensive sub-structures were avoided with the innovative use of lime stabilisation of site won ‘cut’ material to provide a stable foundation for the heavily loaded floor slab. A jointless steel fibre reinforced warehouse slab provides 60kN/m2 loading capacity with a super flat finish and state of the art joint profiles minimising forklift bearing wear. The 63m duopitch roof avoids the need for valley gutters and is supported by two internal lines of columns on a hit and miss basis providing a substantially open plan floor space with economy of build.
