Waterways Ireland is an all-Ireland implementation body charged with the management, maintenance, development, and restoration of inland navigable waterways primarily for recreational purposes.
We provided civil and structural engineering services on their landmark corporate headquarters building in Enniskillen, one of the first buildings in Northern Ireland to be awarded a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’
The three storey office building, which maximises use of natural light and ventilation, is designed to accommodate highly IT oriented government department. The development was designed to comply with the Government’s ‘Achieving Excellence in Construction for Northern Ireland’ initiative which promotes design quality and sustainability in construction, whilst achieving best value for money.
Located on the bank of the River Erne, ground conditions required the use of piled foundations during construction. Features include a board room with a view of the river office accommodation for staff, and conference and exhibition facilities which are available to the public. Situated as it is on the riverbank, the building’s own floating jetty makes it accessible to waterway users as well as road users.
